What is Fylr?
Fylr is an AI‑powered desktop app that automatically reads, summarizes, and renames your files—so you can find what you need without hunting through messy folders.
Which operating systems are supported?
Fylr currently only runs on macOS. Windows support coming soon!
How do I install Fylr?
Just download the installer for your OS from our website, run it, and follow the on‑screen prompts. No extra dependencies required.
What file types does Fylr support?
We support text docs (TXT, DOCX), PDFs, images (JPG, PNG), code files (PY, JS, CPP, etc.), and more—if you can open it, Fylr can summarize it.
How does Fylr decide on a new file name?
Our AI scans the file's content, pulls out key themes or subjects, then generates a concise, human‑readable name (e.g. "ProjectProposal_Marketing_Q2.pdf").
Can I override or tweak the AI's suggestion?
Absolutely. If you don't love the auto‑rename, just click "Edit" and type whatever you prefer.
Will Fylr reorganize my folders, too?
Yes—after renaming, you can choose to have Fylr group files by type, date, or custom tags into new folders for even cleaner structure.
Does Fylr send my data to the cloud?
Nope. Everything runs locally on your machine—even our AI inference in "Offline Mode." Your files and summaries never leave your device.
Do I need an internet connection?
Offline Mode: 100% local, no internet needed. Online Mode: Connects to OpenAI for advanced renaming—optional.
In Offline Mode, does Fylr send my data to the cloud?
No. All processing—including AI inference for summarization, transcription, etc.—runs entirely on your local machine. Your files and summaries never leave your device.
In Online Mode, does Fylr send my data to the cloud?
Yes. When you switch into Online Mode, Fylr uploads your files and requests over an encrypted (TLS 1.3) connection to our secure cloud servers for processing.
